An ARC700 customer reported linux boot crashes when upgrading to bigger L1 dcache (64K from 32K). Turns out they had an aliasing VIPT config and current code only assumed 2 colours, while theirs had 4. So default to 4 colours and complain if there are fewer. Ideally this needs to be a Kconfig option, but heck that's too much of hassle for a single user. Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com>

Historical MMU revisions have been paired with Cache revision updates which are captured in MMU and Cache Build Configuration Registers respectively. This was used in boot code to check for configurations mismatches, speically in simulations (such as running with non existent caches, non pairing MMU and Cache version etc). This can instead be inferred from other cache params such as line size. So remove @ver from post processed @cpuinfo which could be used later to save soem other interesting info. ARC HS Cores support configurable multiple interrupt priorities of upto 16 levels. In commit dec2b284 ("ARCv2: intc: Allow interruption by lowest priority interrupt") we switched to 15 which seems a bit excessive given that there would be rare hardware implementing so many preemption levels AND running Linux. It would seem that 2 levels will be more common so switch to 1 as the default priority level. This will be the "lower" priority level saving 0 for implementing NMI style support. This scheme also works in systems with more than 2 prioity levels as well. Signed-off-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com>

Up until now we had ARC PGU not enabled in axs10x defconfigs trying to not bloat kernel image again with yet another drivers and subsystems. This change configures ARC PGU (as well as DRM bits it depends on) to be built as a module and so those who need LCD screen to work on axs10x may bundle built .ko files in their target's file-system with help of the following command on host: ------------->8------------- make INSTALL_MOD_PATH=_path_to_target_fs_ modules_install ------------->8------------- and later on target with commands as simple as: ------------->8------------- modprobe adv7511.ko modprobe arcpgu.ko ------------->8------------- get LCD working. We get a harmless false-positive warning with the newly added nps clocksource driver: drivers/clocksource/timer-nps.c: In function 'nps_setup_clocksource': drivers/clocksource/timer-nps.c:102:6: error: 'nps_timer1_freq' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized] Gcc here fails to identify that IS_ERR() is only true if PTR_ERR() has a nonzero value. Using PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO() to convert the result first makes this obvious and shuts up the warning. Till now we used clockevent from generic ARC driver. This was enough as long as we worked with simple multicore SoC. When we are working with multithread SoC each HW thread can be scheduled to receive timer interrupt using timer mask register. This patch will provide a way to control clock events per HW thread. The design idea is that for each core there is dedicated register (TSI) serving all 16 HW threads. The register is a bitmask with one bit for each HW thread. When HW thread wants that next expiration of timer interrupt will hit it then the proper bit should be set in this dedicated register. When timer expires all HW threads within this core which their bit is set at the TSI register will be interrupted. Driver can be used from device tree by: compatible = "ezchip,nps400-timer0" <-- for clocksource compatible = "ezchip,nps400-timer1" <-- for clockevent Note that name convention for timer0/timer1 was taken from legacy ARC design. This design is our base before adding HW threads. For backward compatibility we keep "ezchip,nps400-timer" for clocksource Signed-off-by: Noam Camus <noamca@mellanox.com> Acked-by: Daniel Lezcano <daniel.lezcano@linaro.org> Acked-by: Rob Herring <robh@kernel.org>

nps_setup_clocksource() should take node as only argument as defined by typedef int (*of_init_fn_1_ret)(struct device_node *) Therefore need to replace: int __init nps_setup_clocksource(struct device_node *node, struct clk *clk) with int __init nps_setup_clocksource(struct device_node *node) This patch also serve as preparation for next patch which add support for clockevents to nps400. Specifically we add new function nps_get_timer_clk() to serve clocksource and later clockevent registration. This adds support for - CONFIG_ARC_TIMERS : legacy 32-bit TIMER0 and TIMER1 which count UP from @CNT to @LIMIT, before optionally triggering an interrupt. These are programmed using ARC auxiliary register interface. These are present in all ARC cores (ARC700 and ARC HS38) TIMER0 serves as clockevent for all ARC linux builds. TIMER1 is used for clocksource in arc700 builds. - CONFIG_ARC_TIMERS_64BIT: 64-bit counters, RTC and GFRC found in ARC HS38 cores. These are independnet IP blocks with different programming model respectively. In commit 10724cc7 ("tipc: redesign connection-level flow control") we replaced the previous message based flow control with one based on 1k blocks. In order to ensure backwards compatibility the mechanism falls back to using message as base unit when it senses that the peer doesn't support the new algorithm. The default flow control window, i.e., how many units can be sent before the sender blocks and waits for an acknowledge (aka advertisement) is 512. This was tested against the previous version, which uses an acknowledge frequency of on ack per 256 received message, and found to work fine. However, we missed the fact that versions older than Linux 3.15 use an acknowledge frequency of 512, which is exactly the limit where a 4.6+ sender will stop and wait for acknowledge. This would also work fine if it weren't for the fact that if the first sent message on a 4.6+ server side is an empty SYNACK, this one is also is counted as a sent message, while it is not counted as a received message on a legacy 3.15-receiver. This leads to the sender always being one step ahead of the receiver, a scenario causing the sender to block after 512 sent messages, while the receiver only has registered 511 read messages. Hence, the legacy receiver is not trigged to send an acknowledge, with a permanently blocked sender as result. We solve this deadlock by simply allowing the sender to send one more message before it blocks, i.e., by a making minimal change to the condition used for determining connection congestion.
