efivarfs: guid part of filenames are case-insensitive · da27a243
      Matt Fleming authored
It makes no sense to treat the following filenames as unique,

      	VarName-abcdefab-abcd-abcd-abcd-abcdefabcdef
      	VarName-ABCDEFAB-ABCD-ABCD-ABCD-ABCDEFABCDEF
      	VarName-ABcDEfAB-ABcD-ABcD-ABcD-ABcDEfABcDEf
      	VarName-aBcDEfAB-aBcD-aBcD-aBcD-aBcDEfaBcDEf
      	... etc ...

since the guid will be converted into a binary representation, which
      has no case.

Roll our own dentry operations so that we can treat the variable name
part of filenames ("VarName" in the above example) as case-sensitive,
but the guid portion as case-insensitive. That way, efivarfs will
refuse to create the above files if any one already exists.

efivarfs: Validate filenames much more aggressively · 47f531e8
      Matt Fleming authored
The only thing that efivarfs does to enforce a valid filename is
ensure that the name isn't too short. We need to strongly sanitise any
filenames, not least because variable creation is delayed until
efivarfs_file_write(), which means we can't rely on the firmware to
inform us of an invalid name, because if the file is never written to
      we'll never know it's invalid.

Perform a couple of steps before agreeing to create a new file,

        * hex_to_bin() returns a value indicating whether or not it was able
to convert its arguments to a binary representation - we should
          check it.

        * Ensure that the GUID portion of the filename is the correct length
          and format.

        * The variable name portion of the filename needs to be at least one
          character in size.

Instead of adding a magic 4 to the variable size, use sizeof() to make

x86, efi: Allow slash in file path of initrd · deb94101
      Lee, Chun-Yi authored
When initrd file didn't put at the same place with stub kernel, we
need give the file path of initrd, but need use backslash to separate
directory and file. It's not friendly to unix/linux user, and not so
intuitive for bootloader forward paramters to efi stub kernel by
      chainloading.

This patch add support to handle_ramdisks for allow slash in file path
of initrd, it convert slash to backlash when parsing path.

In additional, this patch also separates print code of efi_char16_t from
efi_printk, and print out the path/filename of initrd when failed to open
initrd file. It's good for debug and discover typo.

      samsung-laptop: Disable on EFI hardware · e0094244
      Matt Fleming authored
It has been reported that running this driver on some Samsung laptops
with EFI can cause those machines to become bricked as detailed in the
      following report,

      	https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1040557

There have also been reports of this driver causing Machine Check
Exceptions on recent EFI-enabled Samsung laptops,

      	https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47121

So disable it if booting from EFI since this driver relies on
grovelling around in the BIOS memory map which isn't going to work.

efi: Make 'efi_enabled' a function to query EFI facilities · 83e68189
      Matt Fleming authored
Originally 'efi_enabled' indicated whether a kernel was booted from
EFI firmware. Over time its semantics have changed, and it now
indicates whether or not we are booted on an EFI machine with
      bit-native firmware, e.g. 64-bit kernel with 64-bit firmware.

The immediate motivation for this patch is the bug report at,

          https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1040557

which details how running a platform driver on an EFI machine that is
designed to run under BIOS can cause the machine to become
      bricked. Also, the following report,

          https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47121

details how running said driver can also cause Machine Check
Exceptions. Drivers need a new means of detecting whether they're
running on an EFI machine, as sadly the expression,

          if (!efi_enabled)

hasn't been a sufficient condition for quite some time.

Users actually want to query 'efi_enabled' for different reasons -
what they really want access to is the list of available EFI
      facilities.

For instance, the x86 reboot code needs to know whether it can invoke
the ResetSystem() function provided by the EFI runtime services, while
the ACPI OSL code wants to know whether the EFI config tables were
mapped successfully. There are also checks in some of the platform
driver code to simply see if they're running on an EFI machine (which
would make it a bad idea to do BIOS-y things).

This patch is a prereq for the samsung-laptop fix patch.

powerpc: Max next_tb to prevent from replaying timer interrupt · 689dfa89
      Tiejun Chen authored
With lazy interrupt, we always call __check_irq_replaysome with
decrementers_next_tb to check if we need to replay timer interrupt.
So in hotplug case we also need to set decrementers_next_tb as MAX
to make sure __check_irq_replay don't replay timer interrupt
when return as we expect, otherwise we'll trap here infinitely.

      Tiejun Chen authored
In preempt case current arch_local_irq_restore() from
preempt_schedule_irq() may enable hard interrupt but we really
should disable interrupts when we return from the interrupt,
and so that we don't get interrupted after loading SRR0/1.

      powerpc/oprofile: Fix error in oprofile power7_marked_instr_event() function · 46ed7a76
      Carl E. Love authored
The calculation for the left shift of the mask OPROFILE_PM_PMCSEL_MSK has an
error. The calculation is should be to shift left by (max_cntrs - cntr) times
the width of the pmsel field width. However, the #define OPROFILE_MAX_PMC_NUM
was used instead of OPROFILE_PMSEL_FIELD_WIDTH. This patch fixes the

      powerpc/pasemi: Fix crash on reboot · 72640d88
      Steven Rostedt authored
      commit f96972f2 "kernel/sys.c: call disable_nonboot_cpus() in
      kernel_restart()"

added a call to disable_nonboot_cpus() on kernel_restart(), which tries
to shutdown all the CPUs except the first one. The issue with the PA
Semi, is that it does not support CPU hotplug.

When the call is made to __cpu_down(), it calls the notifiers
CPU_DOWN_PREPARE, and then tries to take the CPU down.

One of the notifiers to the CPU hotplug code, is the cpufreq. The
DOWN_PREPARE will call __cpufreq_remove_dev() which calls
cpufreq_driver->exit. The PA Semi exit handler unmaps regions of I/O
that is used by an interrupt that goes off constantly
(system_reset_common, but it goes off during normal system operations
too). I'm not sure exactly what this interrupt does.

Running a simple function trace, you can see it goes off quite a bit:

      # tracer: function
      #
      # TASK-PID CPU# TIMESTAMP FUNCTION
      # | | | | |

                <idle>-0 [000] 1558.861437: .pasemi_system_reset_exception <-.system_reset_exception

When the region is unmapped, the system crashes with:

      Commit fb595814 removed
xfs_flushinval_pages() and changed its callers to use
      filemap_write_and_wait() and  truncate_pagecache_range() directly.

But in xfs_swap_extents() this change accidental switched the argument
for 'tip' to 'ip'. This patch switches it back to 'tip'
