All known hid-multitouch devices currently match any device group. However, some devices present interfaces belonging to different groups, resulting in a race between the hid-generic and hid-multitouch modules. This patch narrows the MT device list to match only HID_GROUP_MULTITOUCH, which solves the problem. As an exception, the USB_DEVICE_ID_CYPRESS_TRUETOUCH panel is not modified, in order to suppress the unwanted extra interfaces of the device. Switch the driver over to device group handling. By adding the HID_GROUP_MULTITOUCH group to hid-core, hid-generic will no longer match multitouch devices. By adding the HID_GROUP_MULTITOUCH entry to the device list, hid-multitouch will match all unknown multitouch devices, and udev will automatically load the module. Since HID_QUIRK_MULTITOUCH never gets set, the special quirks handling can be removed. Since all HID MT devices have HID_DG_CONTACTID, they can be removed from the hid_have_special_driver list. With this patch, the unknown device ids are no longer NULL, so the code is modified to check for the generic entry instead. Devices that do not have a special driver are handled by the generic driver. This patch does the same thing using device groups; Instead of forcing a particular driver, the appropriate driver is picked up by udev. As a consequence, one can now move a device from generic to specific handling by a simple rebind. By adding a new device id to the generic driver, the same thing can be done in reverse. Most HID drivers do not need to know what bus driver is in use. A generic group driver can drive any hid device, and the device list should not need to be duplicated for each new bus. This patch adds wildcard matching to the HID bus, simplifying device list handling for group drivers. In order to allow the report descriptor to influence the hid device properties, one needs to parse the descriptor early, without reference to any driver. Scan the descriptor for group information during device add, before the device has been broadcast to userland. The device modalias will contain group information which can be used to differentiate between modules. For starters, just handle the generic group. HID devices are only partially presented to userland. Hotplugged devices emit events containing a modalias based on the basic bus, vendor and product entities. However, in practise a hid device can depend on details such as a single usb interface or a particular item in a report descriptor. This patch adds a device group to the hid device id, and broadcasts it using uevent and the device modalias. The module alias generation is modified to match. As a consequence, a device with a non-zero group will be processed by the corresponding group driver instead of by the generic hid driver. The low-level driver can read the report descriptor, but it cannot determine driver-specific changes to it. The hid core can fixup and parse the report descriptor during driver attach, but does not have direct access to the descriptor when doing so. To be able to handle attach/detach of hid drivers properly, a semantic change to hid_parse_report() is needed. This function has been used in two ways, both as descriptor reader in the ll drivers and as a parsor in the probe of the drivers. This patch splits the usage by introducing hid_open_report(), and modifies the hid_parse() macro to call hid_open_report() instead. The only usage of hid_parse_report() is then to read and store the device descriptor. As a consequence, we can handle the report fixups automatically inside the hid core. The current code allows several consecutive calls to hid_parse_report(), which may have happened to work before, but would cause a memory leak and generally be incorrect. This patch collects all the reports before sending them once. The refactoring of the nv50 logic, introduced in 8663bc7c, modified the test for the special lane map used on some Apple computers with Nvidia chipsets. The tested MBA3,1 would still boot, but resume from suspend stopped working. This patch restores the old test, which fixes the problem. When the force changes went in back in 3.3.0, we ended up returning disconnected in the !force case, and the connected in when forced, as it hit the hardcoded check. Fix it so all exits go via the hardcoded check and stop spurious modesets on platforms with hardcoded EDIDs. During DRM release, all the FBs and gem objects are released. If a gem object is being used as a FB and set to a crtc, it must not be freed before releasing the framebuffer first. If FBs are released first, the crtc using the FB is disabled first so now the GEM object can be freed safely. The CRTC will be enabled again when the driver restores fbdev mode. NUL-terminate after strncpy. If the parameter "profile" has length 16 or more, then strncpy leaves "string" with no NUL terminator, so the following search for '\n' may read beyond the end of that 16-byte buffer. Commit 4f5ca836 "HID: hid-input: add support for HID devices reporting Battery Strength" added the CONFIG_HID_BATTERY_STRENGTH option to report the battery strength of HID devices. The commit log explicitly mentions it not working properly with recent userspace, but it is default y anyway. This is rather odd, and actually causes problems on real systems. My 9ce70c02 "memcg: fix deadlock by inverting lrucare nesting" put a nasty little bug into v3.3's version of mem_cgroup_replace_page_cache(), sometimes used for FUSE. Replacing __mem_cgroup_commit_charge_lrucare() by __mem_cgroup_commit_charge(), I used the "pc" pointer set up earlier: but it's for oldpage, and needs now to be for newpage. Once oldpage was freed, its PageCgroupUsed bit (cleared above but set again here) caused "Bad page state" messages - and perhaps worse, being missed from newpage. (I didn't find this by using FUSE, but in reusing the function for tmpfs.) As pointed out by Jason Baron, when assigning a device to a guest we first set the iommu domain pointer, which enables mapping and unmapping of memory slots to the iommu. This leaves a window where this path is enabled, but we haven't synchronized the iommu mappings to the existing memory slots. Thus a slot being removed at that point could send us down unexpected code paths removing non-existent pinnings and iommu mappings. Take the slots_lock around creating the iommu domain and initial mappings as well as around iommu teardown to avoid this race. The BCJ filters were meant to be enabled already on these archs, but the xz_wrap.sh script was buggy. Enabling the filters should give smaller kernel images. xz_wrap.sh will now use $SRCARCH instead of $ARCH to detect the architecture. That way it doesn't need to care about the subarchs (like i386 vs. x86_64) since the BCJ filters don't care either. This reverts commit 6fe0d062. Paul bisected this regression. The conversion was done blindly and is wrong, as it does not provide a primary handler to disable the level type irq on the device level. Neither does it set the IRQF_ONESHOT flag which handles that at the irq line level. This can't be done as the interrupt might be shared, though we might extend the core to force it. So an interrupt on this line will wake up the thread, but immediately unmask the irq after that. Due to the interrupt being level type the hardware interrupt is raised over and over and prevents the irq thread from handling it. Fail. request_irq() unfortunately does not refuse such a request and the patch was obviously never tested with real interrupts. If a process increases permissions using fcaps all of the dangerous personality flags which are cleared for suid apps should also be cleared. Thus programs given priviledge with fcaps will continue to have address space randomization enabled even if the parent tried to disable it to make it easier to attack.
