This patch replaces the queue and channel info 3945 structures with the iwl ones. The initial goal was to replace the channel info structure. Once we do that, and then include iwl-dev.h instead of iwl-3945.h, we still get build errors due to several routines and macro redefinitions. This is why this patch also includes: - TFD39_MAX_PAYLOAD definition for 3945. - CMD_SIZE, CMD_HUGE, CMD_SKB duplication removal. - iwl3945_queue replacement in order to also get rid of the duplicated get_cmd_index routine. Getting rid of any of those needs the iwl-dev.h inclusion which then creates build errors due to definitions duplication. This is why we include all those in the same patch. Signed-off-by:

This patch make sure we use only CCK rate for B only network. For 3945 driver, it sets REPLY_RATE_SCALE command every time we connect to a new network. In this command we set for every rate the number of try and next rate. The problem mac80211 reports same mode for both B and G mode as IEEE80211_BAND_2GHZ which will cause using invalid rate other than CCK in B only network. THis patch on association will examine sta valid rate on association, if no OFDM rate in valid available rates it considers it as B only mode so we can set REPLY_RATE_SCALE command with valid B only network and only choose CCK rate in rate scaling. This adds the infrastructure to support older firmware APIs. The API version number is stored as part of the filename, we first try to load the most recent firmware and progressively try lower versions. The API version is also read from the firmware self and stored as part of the iwl_priv structure. Only firmware that is supported by driver will be loaded. The version number read from firmware is compared to supported versions in the driver not the API version used as part of filename. An example using this new infrastrucure: if (IWL_UCODE_API(priv->ucode_ver) >= 2) { Driver interacts with Firmware API version >= 2. } else { Driver interacts with Firmware API version 1. } Signed-off-by:

A few general categories: 1) ieee80211_has_* tests if particular fctl bits are set, the helpers are de in the same order as the fctl defines: A combined _has_a4 was also added to test when both FROMDS and TODS are set. 2) ieee80211_is_* is meant to test whether the frame control is of a certain ftype - data, mgmt, ctl, and two special helpers _is_data_qos, _is_data_pres which also test a subset of the stype space. When testing for a particular stype applicable only to one ftype, functions like ieee80211_is_ack have been added. Note that the ftype is also being checked in these helpers. They have been added for all mgmt and ctl stypes in the same order as the STYPE defines. 3) ieee80211_get_* is meant to take a struct ieee80211_hdr * and returns a pointer to somewhere in the struct, see get_SA, get_DA, get_qos_ctl. The intel wireless drivers had helpers that used this namespace, convert the all to use the new helpers and remove the byteshifting as they were defined in cpu-order rather than little-endian. This patch converts mac80211 and all drivers to have transmit information and status in skb->cb rather than allocating extra memory for it and copying all the data around. To make it fit, a union is used where only data that is necessary for all steps is kept outside of the union. A number of fixes were done by Ivo, as well as the rt2x00 part of this patch. This patch modifies struct ieee80211_tx_control to give band info and the rate index (instead of rate pointers) to drivers. This mostly serves to reduce the TX control structure size to make it fit into skb->cb so that the fragmentation code can put it there and we can think about passing it to drivers that way in the future. The rt2x00 driver update was done by Ivo, thanks. Signed-off-by:

trying to clean up the signal/noise code. the previous code in mac80211 had confusing names for the related variables, did not have much definition of what units of signal and noise were provided and used implicit mechanisms from the wireless extensions. this patch introduces hardware capability flags to let the hardware specify clearly if it can provide signal and noise level values and which units it can provide. this also anticipates possible new units like RCPI in the future. for signal: IEEE80211_HW_SIGNAL_UNSPEC - unspecified, unknown, hw specific IEEE80211_HW_SIGNAL_DB - dB difference to unspecified reference point IEEE80211_HW_SIGNAL_DBM - dBm, difference to 1mW for noise we currently only have dBm: IEEE80211_HW_NOISE_DBM - dBm, difference to 1mW if IEEE80211_HW_SIGNAL_UNSPEC or IEEE80211_HW_SIGNAL_DB is used the driver has to provide the maximum value (max_signal) it reports in order for applications to make sense of the signal values. i tried my best to find out for each driver what it can provide and update it but i'm not sure (?) for some of them and used the more conservative guess in doubt. this can be fixed easily after this patch has been merged by changing the hardware flags of the driver.
