commit 5d0ddfeb upstream. Nick Meier reported a regression with HyperV that " After rebooting the VM, the following messages are logged in syslog when trying to load the tulip driver: tulip: Linux Tulip drivers version 1.1.15 (Feb 27, 2007) tulip: 0000:00:0a.0: PCI INT A: failed to register GSI tulip: Cannot enable tulip board #0, aborting tulip: probe of 0000:00:0a.0 failed with error -16 Errors occur in 3.19.0 kernel Works in 3.17 kernel. " According to the ACPI dump file posted by Nick at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1440072 The ACPI MADT table includes an interrupt source overridden entry for ACPI SCI: [236h 0566 1] Subtable Type : 02 <Interrupt Source Override> [237h 0567 1] Length : 0A [238h 0568 1] Bus : 00 [239h 0569 1] Source : 09 [23Ah 0570 4] Interrupt : 00000009 [23Eh 0574 2] Flags (decoded below) : 000D Polarity : 1 Trigger Mode : 3 And in DSDT table, we have _PRT method to define PCI interrupts, which eventually goes to: Name (PRSA, ResourceTemplate () { IRQ (Level, ActiveLow, Shared, ) {3,4,5,7,9,10,11,12,14,15} }) Name (PRSB, ResourceTemplate () { IRQ (Level, ActiveLow, Shared, ) {3,4,5,7,9,10,11,12,14,15} }) Name (PRSC, ResourceTemplate () { IRQ (Level, ActiveLow, Shared, ) {3,4,5,7,9,10,11,12,14,15} }) Name (PRSD, ResourceTemplate () { IRQ (Level, ActiveLow, Shared, ) {3,4,5,7,9,10,11,12,14,15} }) According to the MADT and DSDT tables, IRQ 9 may be used for: 1) ACPI SCI in level, high mode 2) PCI legacy IRQ in level, low mode So there's a conflict in polarity setting for IRQ 9. Prior to commit cd68f6bd ("x86, irq, acpi: Get rid of special handling of GSI for ACPI SCI"), ACPI SCI is handled specially and there's no check for conflicts between ACPI SCI and PCI legagy IRQ. And it seems that the HyperV hypervisor doesn't make use of the polarity configuration in IOAPIC entry, so it just works. Commit cd68f6bd gets rid of the specially handling of ACPI SCI, and then the pin attribute checking code discloses the conflicts between ACPI SCI and PCI legacy IRQ on HyperV virtual machine, and rejects the request to assign IRQ9 to PCI devices. So penalize legacy IRQ used by ACPI SCI and mark it unusable if ACPI SCI attributes conflict with PCI IRQ attributes. commit 94426f4b upstream. In ext4_zero_range(), removing a file's entire block range from the extent status tree removes all records of that file's delalloc extents. The delalloc accounting code uses this information, and its loss can then lead to accounting errors and kernel warnings at writeback time and subsequent file system damage. This is most noticeable on bigalloc file systems where code in ext4_ext_map_blocks() handles cases where delalloc extents share clusters with a newly allocated extent. Because we're not deleting a block range and are correctly updating the status of its associated extent, there is no need to remove anything from the extent status tree. When this patch is combined with an unrelated bug fix for ext4_zero_range(), kernel warnings and e2fsck errors reported during xfstests runs on bigalloc filesystems are greatly reduced without introducing regressions on other xfstests-bld test scenarios. [ Upstream commit a951bc1e ] The "follow" fail_over_mac policy is useful for multiport devices that either become confused or incur a performance penalty when multiple ports are programmed with the same MAC address, but the same MAC address still may happened by this steps for this policy: 1) echo +eth0 > /sys/class/net/bond0/bonding/slaves bond0 has the same mac address with eth0, it is MAC1. 2) echo +eth1 > /sys/class/net/bond0/bonding/slaves eth1 is backup, eth1 has MAC2. 3) ifconfig eth0 down eth1 became active slave, bond will swap MAC for eth0 and eth1, so eth1 has MAC1, and eth0 has MAC2. 4) ifconfig eth1 down there is no active slave, and eth1 still has MAC1, eth2 has MAC2. 5) ifconfig eth0 up the eth0 became active slave again, the bond set eth0 to MAC1. Something wrong here, then if you set eth1 up, the eth0 and eth1 will have the same MAC address, it will break this policy for ACTIVE_BACKUP mode. This patch will fix this problem by finding the old active slave and swap them MAC address before change active slave. [ Upstream commit 89c22d8c ] When we calculate the checksum on the recv path, we store the result in the skb as an optimisation in case we need the checksum again down the line. This is in fact bogus for the MSG_PEEK case as this is done without any locking. So multiple threads can peek and then store the result to the same skb, potentially resulting in bogus skb states. This patch fixes this by only storing the result if the skb is not shared. This preserves the optimisations for the few cases where it can be done safely due to locking or other reasons, e.g., SIOCINQ. [ Upstream commit 4f7d2cdf ] Jason Gunthorpe reported that since commit c02db8c6 ("rtnetlink: make SR-IOV VF interface symmetric"), we don't verify IFLA_VF_INFO attributes anymore with respect to their policy, that is, ifla_vfinfo_policy[]. Before, they were part of ifla_policy[], but they have been nested since placed under IFLA_VFINFO_LIST, that contains the attribute IFLA_VF_INFO, which is another nested attribute for the actual VF attributes such as IFLA_VF_MAC, IFLA_VF_VLAN, etc. Despite the policy being split out from ifla_policy[] in this commit, it's never applied anywhere. nla_for_each_nested() only does basic nla_ok() testing for struct nlattr, but it doesn't know about the data context and their requirements. Fix, on top of Jason's initial work, does 1) parsing of the attributes with the right policy, and 2) using the resulting parsed attribute table from 1) instead of the nla_for_each_nested() loop (just like we used to do when still part of ifla_policy[]). [ Upstream commit 44922150 ] If we have a series of events from userpsace, with %fprs=FPRS_FEF, like follows: ETRAP ETRAP VIS_ENTRY(fprs=0x4) VIS_EXIT RTRAP (kernel FPU restore with fpu_saved=0x4) RTRAP We will not restore the user registers that were clobbered by the FPU using kernel code in the inner-most trap. Traps allocate FPU save slots in the thread struct, and FPU using sequences save the "dirty" FPU registers only. This works at the initial trap level because all of the registers get recorded into the top-level FPU save area, and we'll return to userspace with the FPU disabled so that any FPU use by the user will take an FPU disabled trap wherein we'll load the registers back up properly. But this is not how trap returns from kernel to kernel operate. The simplest fix for this bug is to always save all FPU register state for anything other than the top-most FPU save area. Getting rid of the optimized inner-slot FPU saving code ends up making VISEntryHalf degenerate into plain VISEntry. Longer term we need to do something smarter to reinstate the partial save optimizations. Perhaps the fundament error is having trap entry and exit allocate FPU save slots and restore register state. Instead, the VISEntry et al. calls should be doing that work. This bug is about two decades old. Reported-by: James Y Knight <jyknight@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. commit 05a7f582 upstream. The phy layer is missing locking for the above two functions - it has been observed that two threads (userspace and the phy worker thread) can race, entering the bus ->write or ->read functions simultaneously. This causes the FEC driver to initialise a completion while another thread is waiting on it or while the interrupt is calling complete() on it, which causes spinlock unlock-without-lock, spinlock lockups, and completion timeouts. commit 9003ebb1 upstream. The fix for deadlock in PM in commit [1ee23fe0: ALSA: usb-audio: Fix deadlocks at resuming] introduced a new check of in_pm flag. commit 49718f0f upstream. The routines in scsi_rpm.c assume that if a runtime-PM callback is invoked for a SCSI device, it can only mean that the device's driver has asked the block layer to handle the runtime power management (by calling blk_pm_runtime_init(), which among other things sets q->dev). However, this assumption turns out to be wrong for things like the ses driver. Normally ses devices are not allowed to do runtime PM, but userspace can override this setting. If this happens, the kernel gets a NULL pointer dereference when blk_post_runtime_resume() tries to use the uninitialized q->dev pointer. This patch fixes the problem by calling the block layer's runtime-PM routines only if the device's driver really does have a runtime-PM callback routine. Since ses doesn't define any such callbacks, the crash won't occur. This fixes Bugzilla #101371. fnic: Use the local variable instead of I/O flag to acquire io_req_lock in fnic_queuecommand() to avoid deadloack commit db196935 upstream. We added changes in fnic driver patch 1.6.0.16 to acquire io_req_lock in fnic_queuecommand() before issuing I/O so that io completion is serialized. But when releasing the lock we check for the I/O flag and this could be modified if IO abort occurs before I/O completion. In this case we wont release the lock and causes deadlock in some scenerios. Using the local variable to check the IO lock status will resolve the problem. commit 3ed1f8a9 upstream. sem_lock() did not properly pair memory barriers: !spin_is_locked() and spin_unlock_wait() are both only control barriers. The code needs an acquire barrier, otherwise the cpu might perform read operations before the lock test. As no primitive exists inside <include/spinlock.h> and since it seems noone wants another primitive, the code creates a local primitive within ipc/sem.c. With regards to -stable: The change of sem_wait_array() is a bugfix, the change to sem_lock() is a nop (just a preprocessor redefinition to improve the readability). commit 602b8593 upstream. The current semaphore code allows a potential use after free: in exit_sem we may free the task's sem_undo_list while there is still another task looping through the same semaphore set and cleaning the sem_undo list at freeary function (the task called IPC_RMID for the same semaphore set). For example, with a test program [1] running which keeps forking a lot of processes (which then do a semop call with SEM_UNDO flag), and with the parent right after removing the semaphore set with IPC_RMID, and a kernel built with CONFIG_SLAB, CONFIG_SLAB_DEBUG and CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK, you can easily see something like the following in the kernel log: Slab corruption (Not tainted): kmalloc-64 start=ffff88003b45c1c0, len=64 000: 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 00 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b kkkkkkkk.kkkkkkk 010: ff ff ff ff 6b 6b 6b 6b ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ....kkkk........
